C.Z. Wilson has pursued careers in business, education and public service over the past 30 years. Most recently, he served as President, CEO, and Publisher of Wave Community Newspapers. In 1985, Dr. Wilson became President and Publisher of the Central News-Wave Publications where he served until retirement in 1996. In 1997, he returned as President and CEO to facilitate a financial reorganization that created the Wave Community Newspapers, a group of 31 weekly newspapers extending from Culver City to the city of Montebello.

Before entering the newspaper business, Dr. Wilson served as Professors of Economics, Business, and Education at De Paul University, The State University of New York, and UCLA. Apart from being a professor, he spent 14 years at UCLA as Vice Chancellor of Academic Programs, where, among other things, he designed, organized, and developed the Ethnic Studies Centers. His administrative portfolio at UCLA included the Graduate Division, Undergraduate Programs, University Extension, Admissions, Financial Aides, the Office of the Registrar, and Faculty Development Programs.

Dr. Wilson has had a strong commitment to community and economic development in minority communities over the years. In the 70's, he spearheaded the development of the Joint Center for Community Studies which supported and nurtured  the development of Crystal Stairs, Say Yes, and number of community-based institutions. Dr. Wilson, who holds a Ph.D. in Economics, was a founder of the National Economic Association. He has served as consultant to the City of Los Angeles, the MTA, Ford Foundation and recently, as a consultant to the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation for Entrepreneurial Training.


Recently, Dr. Wilson served as Commissioner on the Mayor's Charter Reform Commission. His prior civic and community services include membership on the boards of the Los Angeles County Museum of Arts, Golden State Minority Foundation, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Advisory Committee, and the Mayor's 2000 Committee.


In addition to an extensive range of professional experiences, Dr Wilson has a unique interdisciplinary formal education background. Beyond a Ph.D. in Economics and Statistics from the University of Illinois, he has completed Post-Doctorate training at Carnegie-Mellon under Nobel Laureate Herbert A. Simon in Organizational Theory. More recently, he has completed formal training in Family and Children Counseling at the California State University at Northridge (CSUN). In 1997, Dr. Wilson completed a Management Development Program for Entrepreneurs at the Anderson School of Management at UCLA. He co-authored the book Organizational Decision-Making (Alexis & Wilson) and numerous papers, articles, and book reviews.  In his latest book, Crossing Organizational Boundaries By Choice,  Dr. Wilson challenges Black America to lead efforts to save itself.
